They're both lightening up my kitchen!
Huzzah! I'm so glad this came out as well as it did in my head (b/c you know sometimes that just does not happen!) Happily, this had already been my plan before the May issue of Country Living came out, this just solidified that it was a wise decision.
Initially i had thought this would be more storage than display (attempting to free up some cabinet space here) but the boyfriend said he didn't trust the heavy bowls and other items i was planning on putting there.
So instead i took all my whites from my dining room closet, made more room in there, and lightened and brightened all up in here. It's the perfect modern yet classic improvement.
Yep, there's a lot of tweaking and adding to this display. I just can't stop buying more whites! If we de-soffit, i want to add some up above the cabinets, so you see, it's very necessary and completely justified that i continue down this path. (Hope S is buying this...)
The order of the day was de-theme, de-coffee, but not rid completely.
Don't you just love all the ridgey, bumpy, hobnaily goodness??
This au-natural shot is for perspective. I sit on the right hand side there, and being 5'3 means nothing hits me in the head. The boyfriend, at 6'3, would probably be a little less comfortable there.
In addition to the theme of de-theme, the mission was also to sleekify.
Sleekify one.
Sleekify two.
Can you believe for four years, all that was on this wall was that coffee poster? Talk about wasted space!
Yowza.
Themey ruffley before. Yes, those are coffee mugs in greens. In my defense (because i feel one is necessary) there weren't many light colored curtain options and this is one hella dark space. Prettiness. Brightness. Sleekness.
And also, sneakiness. Cats on tables. Not allowed.
The less dreamy side of things.
2 Enje roller blinds in white
4 Ekby Mossby (7.5 as opposed to 11 deep) shelves and 2 bjarnum connecting brackets-this was better on the budget and was more customizable for the room.
2 sets of bjarnum end brackets found in clearance section, which inspired the whole project.
Love the change! Milk glass and Ikea, who would have thunk it! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Love shelves and displays and milk glass! It's an all around win!!! I have been looking for cute kitchen curtains and they are hard to find. I could sew some? ha ha, not! Oh well, you making small changes until you can make the big one's! Great job!
ReplyDeletehugs, Linda
I really love the shelves with the milk glass. I've been looking for some floating shelves for our kitchen as well where I can display a few of my pieces as well. I think they would look great between my tea poster and garden window! Thank you for the additional inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your milk glass collection! I like how the white pops against the bright green wall. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteNice update! How funny that the magazine covered COPIED YOU!

ReplyDeleteI like the idea! I wonder if I could hang shelves high enough that my kids wouldn't knock anything down. :) too bad we don't have an ikea here!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Your milk glass collection looks gorgeous on the shelves!
ReplyDeleteLove the shelves and the collection of vases and bottles! The coffee cup print is awesome.

PS I am going to feature this on the FB page
Looks terrific!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I am also a milk glass junkie (although I tend to do the fake spray painted kind) plus I currently hold a special place in my heart for open shelving.
ReplyDeleteYours looks awesome!
Oh yes... I DO love bumpy hobnaily goodness, and I think this copy cat is wonderful. I happen to have a copy of that magazine and loved the inspiration too.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did here! Thanks for sharing. Your shelves look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI really like how your milk glass shelves turned out. I have a bunch of those vases that I've been overlooking... perhaps it's time to give them another glance. And your cat looks just as "sneaky" as mine- on the table in full view, not caring that it's not allowed!

Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE milk glass and have a large collection. It's very pretty (and cheap-bonus). At Christmas or a special occasion you can put tea lights in the bottom and they will glow beautifully. YOur newest follower!
ReplyDeleteIkea and milk glass-- what a great combo! I do love all that bumpy, hobnaily goodness. Milk glass is just too tempting to pass up whenever I see it for sale.
ReplyDeleteHey lady ... thanks for stopping by my blog! I LOVE milk glass and have been slowing snaking pieces from Goodwill, the Salvation Army and unsuspecting neighbors' garage sales ... now I need some sweet shelving like yours! New follower and fellow FL girl!
ReplyDeleteI will tell you what I think: It is a fantastic project, and I really love the look of open shelving. Great copycat! :D

ReplyDeleteThat looks great! I love whites it has been such a fad these last couple of years, but sadly i do not have any. I'm really tempted to just paint all my vases white.
ReplyDeleteLove the way you organized all your whites. Also love the cupcakes drawing. But what I love the most is the Longboard Bottle!

If you could hear me, you would know that I am laughing, and I needed a good laugh today. I love your profile and your sense of humor. That is from one cheap-ass to another. I believe that you can create a beautiful and charmingly cozy home without spending your hard earned money on designer junk. I prefer my junk from the thrift shops and yard sales. Your shelves are lovely. . . I like them better than the Country Living ones. I think your touch of green is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower #490.
I would be honored if you would decide to follow me back. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your new found craftiness. Have a marvelous day, Connie :)
Great idea! I wish I had a bank wall large enough to put some open shelving. I have too much crap is the main problem.
ReplyDeleteThat would be "BLANK" wall...
ReplyDeleteLove all your hobnaily goodness! lol Seriously, it is much better than just a poster. I love the shelves and your eclectic mix of milk glass, vintage bottles, etc. It does make it lighter and brighter! Cats don't care about rules, you know that! Thanks for linking up to Gettin' Krafty With It!
ReplyDeleteI love the coppycat. All the wonderful milkglass looks great. Thank you for sharing at TTF and have a terrific day!
ReplyDeleteLove the milk glass!!!! I think I might try something similar in a green... try to put some color to my tiny kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteI love the milkglass! I have a ton of small vases that I have been spray painting white to get a similar look but this is amazing! Great job!
