Whispy Hwhispy redone wreath

You know on the Golden Girls, how Blanche is all Southern, like exaggeratedly so. I'm sure the words "Why I do dee-clayuh" (declare) have been uttered on more than one occasion. The episode my friends and I always referenced was where she lamented "Why, big daddy, why?"  except it came out exaggeratedly Hwhy, big daddy, Hwhy.  All breathy with the H first.

So this redone wreath, with all it's whispy goodness, isn't just whispy.  It's Hwhispy.  All exaggeratedly whispy.  Say it aloud with me, big exhalation of breath, HWHISPY.

I love all those greens and bushy things poking out every which (Hwhich) way.

Did you know they sell whispy things at the dollar store?

whispy orange fall wreath

I do dee-clayuh, I did not.

I plucked off all the sunflowers, cut off a lot of the green leaves, and added the whispy.  And by added I mean shoved them all in there, no glue gun required.  Yay for cheap instant gratification.

It's officially fall in my home...

The door is done...

and now we wait for the verdict.

My door came out exactly as i had hoped.

Finally made a snowman wreath.

With sticks for arms...and cotton balls for snow.  I'm pretty proud of it, and i've been told it's a favorite.

Now for my coworker's doors...

This was the 12 Dogs of Christmas...9 pugs a prancing!

A giant present

A cute tree with some meaningful ornaments

Like what our agency stands for...

And something my in laws need to learn...

She's a MAJOR Flyers fan.

A minimalist approach.

Her door is titled "How to get coal in your stocking."  This poor friend's foster dog has destroyed all of these items...

A shoe, some stuffed animals, her sofa, and you see her affixing the chewed up remote control...i think she may get the sympathy vote!

This is my biggest competition.  It's so stinking cute!  Those antler head bands give it a dimensional look.

This one is super cute, but apparently her engineer husband put it up for her....we're all trying to disqualify her for it.

It's even cuter with the battery operated candles lit.

My artist coworker drew that Snoopy, but it's a little too similar to my door.  He was the last one to decorate, so he had lots of ideas to compare with.

First prize gets a half day off from work, but we've now decided 2nd place gets out at 2, and 3rd place gets out at 3...I'll take it!  I like my chances, but what do you think?

Anybody ever do anything like this at work?  I know Lisa's place goes all out.

As 2012 comes to a close-this will probably be the last post before a recap of the year-i want to thank you all for reading, for commenting, for lurking, and for just hearing my bloggy voice when i hit the publish button.  You all flippin' rock!

A winter door to adore

My friends, this is a plea for your help.  I need to win.  Win what, you say?  A half a day off from work, paid, of course.  And how, you say?  By decorating my office door and knocking the judges', ie my coworkers, socks off.

Now, i would really love to do Chanukah all up on my door, really i would, but you know, i just don't think these are "look how spot on that menorah looks" sort of people.  So i'm thinking along the lines of winter wonderland, snowmen and mittens, sort of thing.

But how can i make that be something special?  And interesting?  And on a door?

Pinterest, yes, of course, ideas abound...but the actual implementation of it all is where it gets a little tricky for me.  I need some grade school teachers to help me out, b/c clearly these people know how to add some holiday bling to some boring spaces!

Snowman, simple, looks easy enough.

Snowman, looks fancy, and time consuming.

Oh if only i had the surrounding wall space for this, this is seriously kicking it up a christmas notch.

My goodness, this penguin is super cute and perfectly holiday neutral.

So then there's my other idea, which i have been wanting to create since last year, which is the ever popular snowman wreath.  However popular online it is, i know my coworkers will be seeing it for the first time.

Twig hands are an especially interesting (and hopefully not bug filled) idea.

Or adding jingle bells or rosettes for his buttons.

Ooh, and i could crumple up some tissue paper and make like a whole snowball scene!  Would you guys think that vote worthy?  Well let's hope my office does!

out, out, damn (empty) pots

Nothing like starting the morning off with a literary reference to keep you on your toes, eh?

So this is the ol' homestead all suited up for the season.  We like the snowmen.  We don't like the empty pots adorning the stairs.

Frosty says top o the morning to you.

This picture was inspiration for the empty pots.  S's dad graciously scoured New Jersey for large pinecones and brought me back a grocery bag full.  None were the mammoth size that this person has, wonder where they live.

Glee!  Not too bad, right?  I knew there was a reason i left these things on the stairs!

Just the right amount of cheer, just the right amount of "huh.  would you look at that."

These are at the end of our walkway, by the sidewalk.  Perhaps as you're walking by with your dog,

you notice a bit of bling, a bit of holiday cheer.  Puts a little more spring in my step when i see something i like and maybe haven't seen before.

Sure, my pinterest inspiration was full of lush greens and undoubtedly taken with fancy camera-so what! Super happy with my now not empty and holiday-fied pots.

Whadya think?
What do you do with your pots when it's too cold for plants?

Friday Thoughts on Wednesday

Well hello there.  How's everyone's week thus far?  Are you having a temporary break in humidity?  We are, and i think it's making me abnormally giddy and upbeat.

We're going to do Friday thoughts today-I've had a lucky week and there's things that need to be said and Friday is sort of up in the air.

1.  Why is Friday up in the air?  Because i am supposed to have jury duty this week!  Gah!  I am very curious about jury duty, actually, and wouldn't mind serving, but we are supposed to spend the day with my dad and (although it isn't even 100% certain) i'm already freaking out and imagining being stuck in a trial instead.  If you're new here, it must be said that i have a tendency to get easily excited, and jump to conclusions, and freak out before events even happen, and just get ahead of myself.

2.  My sickness is back, darn it all!  I don't want to visit with my dad and his compromised immune system if i am sickly.

3.  Quadruple score-a surprise package from my sweet friend Linda,  a win from Chelsea, a win from Brittany, and a win from Stephenie Lynn.  Feature posts to follow.

4.  Speaking of feature posts...Laura and Andrea from Ever After Blueprint asked me to be a part of their Front Door series.  Please pay their gorgeous blog a visit.

5.  I have rediscovered the forgotten joys of honey roasted sesame sticks.

6.  Hey big money-JC Penney and Pier 1 coupons for $10 off a $10 purchase?  It's like stealing!

7.  A trip to Ocean City Maryland is in the immediate future...any recommendations of places to eat or other must sees?

8.  The sticker giveaway ends tonight!  I wish it could have ran for longer, but jury duty (or the possibility of that) is mucking up the timeline and there are rules i must adhere to involving the giveaway.

9.  So enter it, for goodness sakes!  It ends tonight at 11pm eastern.  Good=your chances of winning.

The flippin' wreath

Here's the story
of a wonky door wreath
that I made with my former roommate.

It's got leaves and sunflowers,
and beaded goodness.
We loved it oh, so much.

Til the one day when the roommates lived apart-
who was going to take favorite Fall Wreath?
Neither one would give it up,
quite so easy-
And so they flipped a coin.

That's the way Fall Wreath lives on my front door!

Thank you very much, I'm here all day.
And hopefully not losing any more followers-what's the deal with that? Although after that little ditty...

Detail shot of sparkly leaves and beaded goodness.

You wouldn't have let such a nice wreath go without flipping for it, now would you?

Birthday Bug and Z Gallerie

Tomorrow is sweet bug's birthday!  i'm not making this up...we don't exactly how old she is (4-5) but we know her exact birth date.

She's sleeping on the ottoman, on my laptop, hanging over the side. Yeah, i really don't think it gets any cuter.

My clearance wreath came, and i'm happy with it. It's kinda...cheesetastic and i would be angry if i actually paid full price for this.  But since i didn't, it's all good.  Z Gallerie, I'm not sure we're going to have an ongoing relationship.  I think this might be a first date only type of thing.  It's not you, it's me.

Ok, Maybe it's partly you.  Don't hate.

snazzy succulent

I was going to ask you guys what you thought about this clearance wreath from Z Gallerie, because i can't decide if i love it or it's ugly.  It's been a few weeks, and i still can't answer that question fully.  It may be ugly, but i couldn't stop thinking about it.  Or loving it.

I was also trying to figure out if i could DIY this, but i have never seen succulents in the fake flower areas of craft stores.  Have you?  And sometimes those flowers can be a little pricey, especially since there really can't be any compromise on kind here.  Or maybe i'm just trying to make myself feel better since i already ponied up money for it.  I will let you know in 5-9 days how it looks in person.  It's funny how the little things get you all giddy!

Two is better than one

My spring wreath is kinda unspringy. it's isn't pastel. there are no eggs. i wanted it to be able to do double duty, b/c what do you do for a summer wreath? Add flip flops? Last year i was able to see what flowers and bushes bloomed and what colors would look good. The two dogwood trees have white flowers, i ordered red geraniums from a nonprofit fundraiser, and there are various yellow flowers in the summer, not to mention the daffodils doin' their thing now.

Here's a close up. The door is the original that was here, we just repainted it two toned and added more modern hardware.

i really like the way it turned out. I wish it let in a bit more light, so one day we might swap this for one with more glass and less door.
