Google Reader Griever

Well, I guess I can't procrastinate any longer.  It's time to say goodbye to the easiest way that I read and follow blogs, which was via Google Reader and Google Friend Connect. Why they are fixing something that ain't broken is a puzzle to me-I guess they don't realize how hard we all work and the thrill that we get seeing that follower number rise rise rise.  I feel like it's back to square one.

Many people are making the switch to Bloglovin', and that switch is easy since it imports all the blogs you currently subscribe to.  I don't think anything that is "starred" in reader (which is saved) is imported.  So all those blog tips, pictures, and ideas are down the drain.  One thing I don't like is that all the posts are truncated in Bloglovin, so that means you have to click through to every blog to see the whole post.  I can't see myself doing that, so it probably means I'm going to miss a lot of good stuff.  But of course i'll expect you to click through to mine.  Wink wink.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Pretty pretty please.

Somehow I have followers on bloglovin' already.  Bless your hearts.  When I figure out what i'm doing, i'll put a follow widget up.  Or, you can tell me how.

Please also consider signing up for emails and Pinterest and Facebook over on the right hand side.

I'll never let go, internet friends.  I'll never let go!

Total Slacker

Yes, that's right, i'm a total blog slacker.  My wonderful friend Linda had to ask if i chose a winner for the 2 giveaways....and yes i did.  I just did not blog about it.  I did contact the winners, which is way better than announcing the giveaway winners and NOT contacting them, like some bloggers.  Which is my super huge blog pet peeve.  Of which i have, like, many.  Total My So Called Life quote right there.

Would the fact that i leave for vacation really really soon be a good excuse for my slacker ways?  There's been a lot of clothing trying on and discarding (you do that, too, right?  Try everything on?)  There's been a lot of staring at my cat and crying-i seriously hate to leave her.  If i could wear her like a baby in a sling strapped to my body, believe me, i would.  There's been a lot of CD and ebook downloading.  There's been a lot of later work hours messing up my normal schedule.

So let's get to it--the winner of the Ramsign giveaway was super cool, zombie loving, cupcake making Sourkraut and the winner of the Miracle Gro giveaway was good find collecting, etsy shop having, new friend Debbie.

But don't go yet--help me!  Has anyone been to Aruba?  I told you guys my reason for going, and my stepmom and trip advisor have given me lots of recommendations for restaurants and beach locations.  But what else?  Is there someplace i must try?  Something you wish you knew before you took your trip there?

once, twice, three times a (lucky) lady

Isn't that what they say, that things happen in threes? So there was my lucky streak, and these are the goodies i so humbly won.

Judy had a giveaway from Elemenopillow, and i got to choose this set of fun and funky turquoise pillow covers.  I have to tell you that Karen from Elemenopillow is fabulous.  In the middle of hectic holiday orders from people who were actually paying for her goods, she worked with me to find the best fabric (she wasn't pleased with the batch she got of another pattern) and created a custom order with the pattern on both sides.  Then she shipped them super quick, and they are great quality. I highly recommend working with her if you were interested in pillow covers.

Then Myra had a Wuslu giveaway-I can't wait to pick something from them!  I've bought this corner unit in the past, and i looove it.  It holds all my getting ready in the morning goodies, like makeup and hairspray and brush.  Yet it looks super nice, right?

And then, my final win, Gail had a Partylite giveaway, and i chose these items from the clearance section!  These prices were ridiculously better than the original price.

Faux bois candle holders!

And a dual usage candle holder or reed diffuser.  However, this can only be used with a partylite reed diffuser, which i did not realize, nor do i have.

I just thought it looked neat sitting together or apart as bookends or something.

Thank you to all the companies and the blogs that held the giveaways, i am super appreciative.

Who else is on a winning streak?  Speaking of winnings, anyone have Oscar predictions or must see movies of the year?  Beginners with Christopher Plummer was my favorite this Oscar season.

Not too shabby winner

How was everyone's Thanksgiving?  I don't know about you, but when we got home last night i was full and i was sleepy.  Too sleepy to go online, that's for sure.  That meant this morning was time to draw the winning number for the Shabby Apple giveaway.

Lucky number 13 was Christina, who said "i like shabby apple on facebook."  Yay, Christina, i'm super excited for you.  Now it's back to coffee sipping and paper reading for me.

Enjoy the long weekend, my friends.

Not Too Shabby (Giveaway)

Maybe if i excitedly squeal really loudly you'll be able to tell how super pumped i am to bring you a fabulous giveaway from Shabby Apple.  Who'd like some new clothes to wear for the holidays?  This gal would (hint hint, shabby apple powers that be!)  If you're not familiar with Shabby Apple, not only do they have tons of women's dresses, but they also have some great jewelry and shoes i'd be equally excited to try. (subtle, right?  i know).

Look at these beauties-they're called Gasp.  And i literally did just that.  For reals.  I want them.

Santa?

Chanukah Harry?

Size 8, if you please.

What we are offering you, dear readers, is this little black skirt. I chose this one because i thought it would be the most versatile piece and would work on all figures. Do you not love it with that sweet bow?

Know what else has a sweet bow?  My future shoes.

If you want this skirt to be in your future, here's how to win it.

1.  You must like Shabby Apple on Facebook.  (Mandatory entry)

2.   Do you happily follow the blog?  Let me know with another entry.

A winner will be chosen on Thanksgiving.

Thought it'd make somebody a little more thankful.  And that somebody has to be a US resident...sorry, my foreign friends!

Good luck, everyone!

Friday Thoughts on Wednesday

Well hello there.  How's everyone's week thus far?  Are you having a temporary break in humidity?  We are, and i think it's making me abnormally giddy and upbeat.

We're going to do Friday thoughts today-I've had a lucky week and there's things that need to be said and Friday is sort of up in the air.

1.  Why is Friday up in the air?  Because i am supposed to have jury duty this week!  Gah!  I am very curious about jury duty, actually, and wouldn't mind serving, but we are supposed to spend the day with my dad and (although it isn't even 100% certain) i'm already freaking out and imagining being stuck in a trial instead.  If you're new here, it must be said that i have a tendency to get easily excited, and jump to conclusions, and freak out before events even happen, and just get ahead of myself.

2.  My sickness is back, darn it all!  I don't want to visit with my dad and his compromised immune system if i am sickly.

3.  Quadruple score-a surprise package from my sweet friend Linda,  a win from Chelsea, a win from Brittany, and a win from Stephenie Lynn.  Feature posts to follow.

4.  Speaking of feature posts...Laura and Andrea from Ever After Blueprint asked me to be a part of their Front Door series.  Please pay their gorgeous blog a visit.

5.  I have rediscovered the forgotten joys of honey roasted sesame sticks.

6.  Hey big money-JC Penney and Pier 1 coupons for $10 off a $10 purchase?  It's like stealing!

7.  A trip to Ocean City Maryland is in the immediate future...any recommendations of places to eat or other must sees?

8.  The sticker giveaway ends tonight!  I wish it could have ran for longer, but jury duty (or the possibility of that) is mucking up the timeline and there are rules i must adhere to involving the giveaway.

9.  So enter it, for goodness sakes!  It ends tonight at 11pm eastern.  Good=your chances of winning.

Top Ten: Get more bang for your buck

Last week, Lauren from Life Uncluttered invited me to participate in her top 10 series.  I thunk and i thunk about 10 things i even knew about, wondering if there was such a thing.  As a list lover, this is right up my alley.  And as a cheapskate frugal minded person who wants to get the most for their money or their time, i thought the Top Ten Ways To Get More Bang For Your Buck would be a good fit.

the cape on the corner's top ten ways to get the most bang for your buck

1. Have a love affair with Swagbucks, and work it, work it, work it.  I work it simply.  Install the swagbucks tool bar, and search through it.  Told you, really simple.  It is just one extra step-instead of going directly to a website, you are going to insert that website or search into your sb toolbar, press enter, and magically points will appear.  You don't get points with every search, but you get points A LOT! And with those points you can redeem them for anything listed, but i have chosen Amazon gift codes.  What can't you get from Amazon?  I also do the swagbucks daily poll to earn points, and subscribe to blogs that tell you when a new code is available.  But that's it, and i'm getting rewarded for doing something i do-surfing the internet- countless times a day!

2.  Memolink is my baby.  The boyfriend and I have been members for over 10 years (oh my gosh, how did that happen!) and i talk about this site to everyone.  You buy things online, right?  Get rewarded for it.  Before i make a purchase online-every time-i see if Memolink has the store.  If they do, i go to the store's website via ML, and earn points per dollar.  You know groupon? ML has it. So it looks like this-search ml through swagbucks-buy groupon through ml-earn per dollar for something i was going to buy anyway.  Oh, if only they would have etsy! If i send you a referral link via email, i get bonus points.  You'd like me to have that right?  I know you would...

3.  Restaurant.com-of course, clicked through ML at 120 points per dollar, is the best place to score gift certificates for cheap to the listed restaurants.  There are restrictions, like only good certain days of the week, but when they are 90% off and you're getting a $25 gift certificate for $1...i don't mind what the restrictions are.  You can search most cities in the US, so a genius idea i can't take credit for is buying these for your vacation destination or your vacation home since you'll likely be going out to dinner there.

4.  It's my birthday, and i'll get free if i want to.  Friends, i make no bones about signing up for every email list i can get on, if it's going to result in free food for my birthday.  Just went to a new place for dinner last weekend, and hopefully they'll throw something my way when October comes.  My inlaws think this means cheap, i think if the places offer it, why the heck not take advantage??  I'm getting older anyway, why not get something for it?

5.  Netflix is my friend.  Instant netflix is best friend.  I haven't been to the slums they call movie theaters in months.  10 bucks for an entire month of indies and foreigns, or see 1 new mediocre movie.  Yeah, let me ruminate on that....Redbox and Instaflix are also good, and they provide free codes via text and email.  Hey, for a dollar i'll pretty much see anything.  And some are surprisingly good!  Gnomeo and Juliet, anyone?

6.  Credit cards that give back-at this very moment there is a $10 dollar reward card to Old Navy burning a hole in my wallet.  Shop where i would anyway, and they give me money for doing so.  Yes, thank you, more please.

7.  Coupons-ok, i'm not talking couponing like a crazy person that stockpiles 62 mustards just because they can-but use coupons.  In college my roommates would just buy the things they needed from anywhere, used absolutely no coupons, and never bought a spare to avoid this in the future.  Do you know how much they charge at a gas station for basic necessities?  Memolink and Swagbucks offer grocery coupons you print out, therefore only printing the ones you need, and you earn points when redeemed.  It's like a thrifty savey cycle of goodness.

8.  Online coupons-never buy anything online without searching for coupon codes.  You don't always find them, but it's worth the free shipping or extra 30% off your order if it's out there in cyberland.  Again, use that swagbucks toolbar!

9.  Magazines-Websites like Tanga, Best Deal Magazines, and even Amazon have fantastic deals on popular mags or ones you haven't heard of.  Super Chevy magazine for the boyfriend who restores old cars...yes.  Natural Health magazine for your new age coworker....yes.  Rolling Stone for your music lovin' self...yes.  Got 'em all for around 3 bucks each for a whole year.

10.  Coke points-yes, i partake in the occasional soda, and underneath that bottle cap or 12 pack is a code.  That code translates into more cokes or other goodies, like a Better Homes and Garden subscription.  For drinking coke, which we'd do anyway.  My dad and best friend used to give us all their coke lids-now that they see us getting such great stuff, they have signed up for their own account.  I may have asked the bartender at a recent wedding for the coke lids, i may have torn the codes from the 12 packs from a family barbecue, and we may have our friends collecting from neighbors.  But i'm not saying.

So there you have it, my guide to getting more bang for your buck.  Yeesh, with it all piled together it sounds like a lot of work or i'm a lunatic, fanatically seeking out the best deal.  I assure you that's not the case-i do a normal amount of fantatically seeking out the best deal.

How do you get the most bang for your buck (aside from thrift stores or garage sales)?

one small step for blog

So....i'm on facebook?  And pinterest?  What do i do now?
What do you do with your facebook page?  I think i'd like to share good finds and ideas from other blogs...is this what people do?

Do you have a separate page for your blog and one for personal?  I'm afraid of friending anyone in case it's their personal page.

Is your page one that can be "liked" or more of a friend request type deal?  Or both?

Um...yeah.  Help and advice please.

Lucky number 7

It's 11 am-the paper's been read, the coffee's been drank (drunk? i never get that right) so it's time to announce the winner of the Freschetta pizza and cutting board.

Lucky number 7-Lisa said... I keep seeing these commercials on tv and I really want to try one. That's my kind of pizza!

Congrats to you, my friend!  I'll be emailing you for your address and having the boyfriend ship it out this week!

Thank you Freschetta for providing the giveaway goodies, too!

I'm Versastylish

Mikalah at Posy the Porcelain Pig and Vanessa at Nifty Thrifty Things found me award worthy, graciously giving me the Versatile blogger award and the Stylish blogger award, respectively.  Some reasons these gals rock? Aside from making their homes super cute and having unique style, Mikalah sings Opera and Vanessa lives in Germany! Jealous on both fronts!

Is versatile just another way of saying totally random, ya think?

Some random facts about me (technically i need to list 14, and pass this award onto 30 people since we're talking 2 awards..but that seems crazy!)

1.  Am currently obsessing over our trip to Spain in April-Aside from Rick Steve's (my travel guru) book, i have photocopied copious amounts of info from 3 library books and have 2 computer documents full of internet info.

2.  Here's the plan-relax for first week in Canary Islands with mild and slow sight seeing.  Second week on mainland southern Spain crank up the sightseeing-Malaga, Granada, possibly Cordoba, Gibraltar, Tangiers, and anything else along the way.

3.  Just watched on instant netflix "My Date with Drew," a documentary about one "every mans" quest to get a date with Drew Barrymore.  I love documentaries.

4.  In said documentary, there was this quote "I divide the people of the world into 2 groups-those that love grease 2 and those that don't.  i fall into the first category".   I flippin' love Grease 2 and any movie that references it in a positive manner!

5.  Relatedly, i love my netflix.  i love my instant netflix.  I just love movies.

6.  Around this time of year i start using the words "buzz" and "buzzworthy" and make it a point to watch anything pertaining to awards-Golden Globes, Independent, SAG, Oscars.

7.  i am craving the signs of Spring much more this year for some reason.

be sure to check out these 15ish blogs of quasi recent discovery:

the big adventures of rachel and joey
lumpkin and me
where beauty meets function
girl in air

A La Heart

I won a giveaway from my sweet bloggy friend Linda at A La Carte.  It was more than just the fall goodies that prompted me to enter, but the thought that i would have actual things around my house from such a kind lady and online friend.

Along with a lovely note and ninja-like wrapping job, here are my goodies!

Who doesn't love a surprise sachet of candy corn?

The inspector giving the recipe box the once over.

Much better than my current system....
This is even cuter in person, if that's even possible!

This acorn topped canister, isn't it adorable?  It's living on the upstairs bathroom vanity, bringing fall cheer to the otherwise ignored second story.

All the goods.  Thank you so much, Linda!  You are so thoughtful for offering this giveaway, but also for shipping it.  Yowza, those shipping costs are insane.  You see why i'm sticking with online codes!

Speaking of online codes...what the heck, where are you all?  Do you not want free money?  The csn giveaway is on til the 18th!  yeesh!

Birthday giveaway!

My how time flies!  Today i am 31.  In pessimist years, that's almost 40.  Not that there's anything wrong with 40 (or beyond) but i can't believe that I am that much closer to such an "adult" number.

In honor of my birthday, I am super excited to be offering you guys 40 smackeroos to any of the CSN storesMy very first giveaway, too, so lordy i hope i do this right!  I have made the comments open so the number of your comments is right...so fingers crossed for no mean ones!

This giveaway is open to followers of this fantastic blog here and leave a comment telling me the best birthday gift you've ever gotten.  Something handmade from the kiddos?  A big honkin' diamond? Whisked away on a vacation?

I must have a way to contact the winner, so please make sure your comment has your email or your blog address. Many of you leave comments, but i can't write back to you!  The giveaway will be open until 10/18.

Good luck!

Some particulars:  CSN only ships to the US and Canada, so bummer there.  But please comment, my foreign friends, b/c i would like to know your best gifts! I must also inform you that commenting on CSN's facebook page about the giveaway violates their company’s facebook policies, so don't do that, ok? Image from we heart it.

Thank you and a double feature

This week we have hit the triple digit mark-- I now have 105 followers.  I can not thank you all enough for your support, friendship, and readership.  Please know how truly appreciative i am.

I have to shout out to a few awesome gals if you don't mind....

Holly highlighted me on her blog Holly's Roller Coaster in the hopes of sending a few my way to push me over the 100 mark.  Such a sweetie.  She has had a very busy spurt recently, spray painting and making curtains, as well as joining the cloche club.  Woo hoo for her!

Jill over at Creating My Way To Success featured my cloche and my bedroom revamp at her link party A Round Tuit.  Such a fun title-you know, getting around to it?  Her party is going on right now, so go link up something you've finally gotten around to!

Christy B, my sweet sweet bloggy friend, this gal's the greatest.  If cute animals are your thing, please head over to her blog Achieving Simplicity in Life.  I don't know where she finds these adorable videos, but they will warm even the hardest of hearts.  A cat and a deer as best friends?  Yes, it's so, and she's got proof.

And because it's Sunday we have this...this is what happens when a cat tries to sniff the camera lens.

Have a great week everybody!

back to life

back to reality.

lots of pictures to upload and tweak. lots of laundry to do. lots of grocery shopping. lots of google reader subscriptions to read.

this could take a while. can't even think about blogging about amazing vacation just yet, so please bear with me.

on a sidenote, 20 followers. thank you, 20 followers. you have chosen wisely, and of your own free will. not to be eligible for a giveaway. not to reach a certain number so that i will have a giveaway. (if you are fortunate enough to offer giveaways and have hundreds of followers, i am very glad for you, but that's not how i wanted to do it. i want people to follow who genuinely want to follow based on content alone) you are reading b/c you like my room redos, or you like my writing style (there are some blogs i just look at the pretty pictures). heck, maybe you're just like "shut up and show me that adorable cat." that's ok, i understand. there's room here for you, too.

i thank you.
