Happy Chanukah, friends. It's that special time of year when we light the menorah, spin the dreidel, and most importantly, nom on latkes. Not just any old potato pancakes, but my mother's potato pancakes. Deelish! You didn't think i was going to say i made them, did you? I do help with the shredding of the potatoes and therefore, my knuckles. But having one's skin sloughed off is a small price to pay for these delicious puppies!
Now this is what a latke looks like, people! Edges all askew, the perfect little nubby for plucking that no one will know is missing. Paper towels absorbing the grease that ensures we all go home smelling of latkes, which isn't a bad thing.
I don't participate in the applesaucing or the sour creaming that most people garnish latkes with. My brother and I like a good ol' mound of ketchup. Sometimes this is met with shock and awe. Ketchup. On latkes. I say why not, you put ketchup on fries! Is this not an even better variation of the fry, one that comes but once a year!? Keep calm and ketchup on, eh? Make me up a printable to market around blogland and i'll be set!

I feel better. Although we're not Jewish, throughout my life I've had a lot of adopted Jewish relatives and a lot of friends and have always celebrated Chanukah. I love making latkes ( OK I cheat and use my Cuisinart ) and while I like them w/ sour cream I LOVE them w/ ketchup!!! Happy Chanukah!
In the south, we make potato pancakes using leftover mashed potatoes and we always top them with ketchup. Mmm...so good. I have followed latkes recipes when I haven't had any leftover mashed potatoes and they're soooo good!
Happy first day of Hanukkah! I so want some latkes after reading your post! Yum! Growing up in a "cape" we shared a driveway with "my extra grandparents" who were jewish. We were always invited to share in the Hanukkah celebrations. So special!

Happy Chanukah! I eat latkes with ketchup every year. Not a fan of applesauce or sour cream. Though sometimes they are good with cinnamon sugar too. I think I'm going to have to invade my brother's kitchen to make them this year.
I've never made latkes before, but I love potatoes, so I need to try making them!
Yum! My mom used to make potato pancakes when I was a kid. They weren't as traditional as these with the funny shape because she blended the potatoes more. Oh but that taste I just love. My kids didn't think so when I made them!! It has been awhile so maybe I will make some again!!
Happy Chanukah!!
I don't like applesauce on my latkes...it just seems wrong. LOL But put some sour cream (or ketchup) on them and I can eat some serious latkes. :)
I'm not Jewish, but we have a Jewish Deli here that I love! We always did what The Brick Cottage said, make potato patties out of leftover mashed potatoes.
I am shocked at all the ketchup lovers! Applesauce is totally my thing, but I'm going to pull out a bottle of ketchup at the party on Sat and see what people say!
Happy Channakuh!
Oh, my ... Those look delicious!
Applesauce?? With Potatoes?? Oh my...now the sour cream, yes! And the Ketchup...yes! It all sounds yummy and I'm really, really hungry now!
~~Happy Chanakuh~~
Happy Chanukah!! I would love to try a potato latke! Ok looking for a recipe now....will you share your Mom's??
Yes, Happy Chanukah! I'm thinking that if you made them or helped, you can put whatever you want on them!
I didn't know potato pancakes were part of Hanukkah. They look delish! Thanks for sharing and Happy Hanukkah!
These look yum! Thanks for sharing.
I love potato pancakes. I must have cinnamon apple sause with them and my Hubby is a sour cream guy. The pancakes need to be strong enough that I can lift them up and dip them in the apple sause. We are not Jewish and like them best with Kielbasa. Also I decided on a theme for next weeks Musical Monday and I am expecting you to get into it! Have a great day and a Happy Chanukah!
Looks sooooo yummy! I remember having latkes at a family friend's home when I was a child and I still can't forget how AWESOME they were.
Thanks for stopping by!!

I've never had them before, but they look good!
Keep Calm and Ketchup On! Love it! I'm making a couple of Hanukkah printables for a customer but not that one! :) I eat neither sour cream nor apple sauce on my latkes- I'm a purist and stick with salt. I don't want anything messing up the delicious latke flavor!! :)
Yum! They look sooo good! I have always meant to make these, but never have! Can I come over? lol! Hope your week is going great! Angie xo
I've never had these, but would like to try them sometime. Although I'm thinkin sour cream DOES sound pretty good! Have a good weekend...
I attempted to make sweet potato and carrot latkes last year. They came out looking more like a pie :) but oh so delicious!
Yum! When will they ready? I'll be right by. Thanks for visiting my blog.
