My living room corner is having a moment

Oh man, i fully realize this is a million of practically the same exact photo.

Usually i get really exasperated by people who post a million photos of the same thing.

Like, here's my decorated tray. here's my decorated tray zoomed in. here's my decorated tray zoomed in but focused on one specific item with everything else blurry. here's my tray, on my ottoman, but still. the tray. here it is. but maybe with an overall room, instead of one item, it warrants a million photos. maybe.

You may have noticed the blue wall is no longer. When we removed part of the wall for the kitchen reno, it obviously affected this wall, and since there was spackling and repairing on both this and the half moon table wall, we repainted. Did i want to repaint all 4 walls so there was no more tan living here, sure, sure. but my pro wouldn't do that. So this is second best.

I'm not 100% sure about the artwork situation, if it needs one more piece or not. If you are just looking at the wall then i say yes, but when you take in the opening to the kitchen, i say no.

This is reading as boring. It's not in person. Grr.

With or without? (I feel like i'm ordering cheesesteaks in the city.) I see the merits of both sides of this argument, but i like without.  Without speaks to less clutter, doesn't stop your eye the way another art piece does, allows the corner to be a whole moment. Zooms right past wall into kitchen.

Less zooming, more wall focusing. More visual clutter.

The Art of the Brick

This weekend we went to the Franklin Institute for a special exhibit called The Art of the Brick, an artist's rendering of paintings and sculptures done completely in legos. I know what you're thinking-isn't that just for kids?-but nay, my friends. It's for creatives of all ages, and not so creatives but super smart engineer boyfriends who watch shows like "How it's Made" and "How'd They Do That," inquisitor buildy types. Plus, inquisitor buildy engineer type boyfriends most definitely played with legos as kids. So, win win all over the place.

The artist. You are so right, Nathan. I'm going to add art made from sounds (ie music, cuz that's art, too).

Legos, all of it. The floor, the table, the drawers.

Whoa. Dinosaur got a room all too himself.  Doesn't this look like you're in a Natural History Museum or something? You could say this was bones, and i'd believe you.

sculpture art legos
This Moai sculpture was made of 75,450 bricks. The artist said it was one of the largest, taking months to complete. Crazy how rectangles can make the curve of the chin.

This was an original creation, titled Grasp, and was life size. All of the original pieces had an explanation or positive words, which was a nice touch.

The art reproductions were some of my favorites, as you can compare it to the original.
This pixelated Mona Lisa used 4,573 legos to create.

I forget what this was titled, but it looks awesome. Something about how creativity is inside us all, i think.

The scream! Some of the art pieces were dimensional, like this, American Gothic and Whistler's Mother.

So crazy, i can't even imagine making this actually work out.

The Kiss, by Gustav Klimt, was one of my favorites, too. So perfect to the painting, and this was dimensional and life size.

The Swimmer too 15 days to complete and used over 10,980 pieces.

The Wave.

Ok, i know it's just a towel, but that DRAPE is killer. How does that even happen!!??

 Tree huggers.

The Venus De Milo, also life size, and used 18, 483 pieces of legos.

Which are your favorites?  Ever seen sculptures in a unique medium? I'd love to see those giant butter carvings, but i'd settle for a fabulous sand castle display.

Punched up dining room

You're probably saying to yourselves "Here she goes again with that dining room." And you may be eye rolling. You'd be pretty much in line with my family, then, who is unfamiliar with the rapid rate of tweaking and change ups happening in my humble abode. I mean, usually a person tweaks, and then there's a finish line. There's not a "let's start again, go a whole different route" line. But, you know, these things happen. I'm becoming the queen of Before/After/Better After....Best After.

I'm a start you off with the Best After.  This is where we are now, and where i hope we stay.

Previously we were here, with the Better After.

And it was all because of this light fixture.  As it often is, am i right?  I thought it made the room feel taller, and brighter, and lighter.

But then all you saw were RED CURTAINS. Loud and yelling and demanding all eyes on them. Opposite of lighter and airier.

And now it's all like, ahhhh.  Pattern, and light colors, and nothing SCREAMING at you.

New gallery wall pattern (before there were just sconces with red candles on either side of the mirror).

Just to reiterate with the SCREAMING RED curtains.

And letting the light fixture lead after.

Let's consult the archives-this was the old fixture that was special order, man.  i loved that thing.  But we never hung it as low as we should, and it gave off an orangey glow.  Note the sconces and wasted space on either side of the mirror.

Here we have our very first after, along with aforementioned orangey glow and table runners turned window valances.  Don't say this gal ain't crafty.

And our very first before, when the dining room was a bedroom.
You've come a long way, baby!  I think (nay, i know) your tweaking days are over.  Of course, i did declare success in the debrownification of the living room, and well....you'll see.

In case you're new, and are wondering why there's a victrola in the corner...
