Born a Travelin' Tree

I'm noticing a lot of bloggers sharing the ornaments on their trees...and i like sharing...and i love my ornaments. My turn! My turn!

The tree, being relegated to the basement this year, is not getting its usual amount of love.  It's not been lit more than three times, it doesn't provide the nice glow and holiday feel while i watch tv, sip my wine, or read by its side.  Poor thing.  Let's give it some love.

Some of you know the boyfriend and i have been together for 15 years (just celebrated that big one last Tuesday!) but we only started collecting ornaments of our travels in recent years.  Before that, i clearly never had my own tree (being Jewish, and all) so these souvenirs do not go back that far, nor are they from my own travels.

And this globe was the one that started it all.  We took a long weekend in Mystic, Connecticut and this old looking globe spoke to me.  To my love of travelling, to my desire to do more of it, and of course, would serve as a reminder of this mini trip.

I am suuuper obsessed with these smores ornaments. In addition to this Statue of Liberty, there are about 5 more.  And growing.  Keep 'em coming, in laws!

Hawaii, one of my absolutely favorite places we've traveled to, and Sedona, also one of the most beautiful places we've been.

Brugges!  My love of Brugge is like none else. Though we only spent 2 days there, it has made a magical, lasting impression.

Our recent trip to Aruba, with a divi divi tree hand painted by a local artist.

Amsterdam, symbolizing the entirety of Holland we traversed and my 30th birthday fabulousity extravaganza.  Behind it is an ornament from Tenerife, Spain.

Ok, this i asked for last year.  Like the globe, it reminds me of what i love to do.

We actually won a trip from a local radio station to see The Who in concert in London.  How crazy is that?

And of course, a little love for Chanukah, on this big 'ol Christmas tree.

I asked for a manatee ornament this year, so we can have something to remember when we crossed "swimming with manatees" off the bucket list.

As much as i love the themed trees that look very magazine friendly, i'll relive our travel memories any day.  What about you?  Multiple trees with different looks?  Random ornaments or single look?

What a great idea for a tree and a way to recapture the memories of your travels. I buy ornaments wherever we go. My family laughs that before we go anywhere, I look up a Christmas store.

I love that all your ornaments mean something special! A manatee ornament would be adorable! How was swimming with them?! (You might have written about it, if so just point me to the post)
Congratulations on 15 years!! Was that on the 11th? My husband and I celebrated 10 years together on that day! That would be such a neat coincident! :)

I love the idea of ornaments from travels! But then I'm usually too cheap (and it's too far from Christmas) for me to actually buy them when I'm traveling. We have one from our honeymoon on Nantucket, one from Disney that my friend actually gave me as a gift. And then a couple of years ago we went to Chattanooga right before Christmas, so I was feeling enough in the mood to spend the money on a See Rock City ornament. All of yours look great!

My Christmas trees having many ornaments collected on our travels. I have the globe ornament also! At this point the only souvenirs I bring home are usually tree ornaments, many great memories. That's why I call the big tree My Memory Tree! You can check it out here is you like http://lifebeginsatfortysomething.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-christmas-wrap-up-home-tour.html

I love what I call 'memory trees' and adding travel ornaments is something I like to do also. I don't always get something that says the name of the place but something that 'reminds' me of the place. I have found that key chains make great ornaments. I got one from the Vegas Paris Hotel for my tree this year. Next year I will have at least one (probably more) from the trip to Paris, France. I love that globe ornament!! Oh and big congrats on being with the boyfriend 15 years!!

hugs, Linda

What a great selection of ornaments! I would never have thought to collect those from my travels!
Our tree is definitely a randomly decorated one - anything and everything goes. Hubby complained this year that we can't even see the tree there's so much on it!! He He!!

Hope you have a fabulous Christmas time!!

I love all the travel ornaments. I need to start doing that with my family. A manatee ornament would be great! I loved swimming with them last year and could definitely do it again (once water is warmer). This year we're doing a dolphin cruise so hopefully my daughter can see some and I can get some good pictures. I saw some last year and it was great.

Love your travel ornaments. In a sense, I do the same thing, I usually buy a ornament when I am travelling domestic or overseas to hang on my tree.

Happy Holidays!

No tree or ornaments, since I'm Jewish, but I do love your travel-themed tree. How nice that all your ornaments bring back memories of different trips!

You may not have grown up with Christmas trees, but, boy, I think you've captured the spirit very well. I love how much meaning your ornaments have. I bet they bring to mind the places you've seen as well as the feelings you had while visiting. And I love the menorah on the tree! Lovely!

What a great idea! It's always fun to pick up something on a trip, but I find I get sick of the collectables! This a great idea!

I'm with you! I love the look of a designer tree, but the ones that hold treasured memories or travels are the best! Your tree is beautiful!
