A Midcentury Modern Makeover

Finally!  For four years i have been lamenting the tv stand situation, and for 4 years this beauty has been sitting in our garage.  She was piled on top of, piled around, and parked in.  Can't tell you what finally motivated the boyfriend to drag her in the house and start working on her, but whatever the reason-here she is!

Do i have a before?  Nope.  Just picture something more orange, with a veneer top, grimy handles, and all drawer fronts and you have your before.  Settle in, we're taking a nice long look.

The handles are the originals, with a coat of silver spray paint.

Since we hardly use the receiver, we concealed it in a drawer front that just folds down.  This makes me the most happy. Hide the uglies.

Advice on chair legs-paint them? Stain them to match?  Leave as is?  Metal? No one's noticing, so who cares?

This wall needs some round shapes.  Er, circles. Yes, i knew there was a word for "round shapes."

Cat outtakes-the very best part!

Bad before, or early after-whatever you choose to call it-i'm glad it's gone!

Loving the after.

A refresher on the other half of the room.

See, it's even more Emily Henderson-esque than the last time.  I could not be loving this living room more. Have you added any mid century pieces to your home recently?  Was it sitting in your garage for 4 years, like mine?  Probably not, you guys are good.

Love it!! I love the legs on mid century modern pieces! Hmm...you could go silver with the chair legs, to pull out the silver from the pulls. I think that would help the legs pop some more too! Your living room is so well put-together and super cute! :)

It looks wonderful, I can remember when those were all new in the 1960's era I had one very similar
When I married my husband 20 years ago he had all mid century modern furniture, I sent it all to an auction house made $37.00 LOL

Very nice MCM makeover. To think you've had it hiding away in the garage all these years. Visiting from the Twirl and Take A Bow Party :)

What a fabulous way to upcycle!

My wish for you is a holiday season filled with peace, joy and love.

Happiness an health to you and yours in the new year!

Love this piece! I am so impressed at your upcycling skills. I'd love to do this however I fear my vision would fail me and it would just look like an old dresser with a TV sitting on it. Fabulous work!!!

Miss Kitty said...

Oh yes! I love the "after" photos! At first I was confused ( that happens easily) but the "after" is a totally different piece of furniture, right?
I have been researching ways to "hide" a TV and one of the favorite ways I have seen is to "hide it in plain sight" as part of a wall gallery like you have done wonderfully!

Vel Criste said...

Seriously, this piece is a KILLER, I would buy something like this! Fabulous job!

Oh my goodness. This is fabulous. I have a mid century modern tv stand needing an update and this is inspiring {though it's not nearly as impressive as this one}!
