You should be framed in a fine art gallery

I know, it's nothing new to blogland.  But swimming around in my head is a gallery wall for the living room, above the tv.  Last week i finally laid it out.  Every frame is free except the ones flanking either side, and even those were 4 dollars with matting.  Since they were free, they came with questionable artwork....please keep in mind i won't be using Americana bunny in upper right corner, or middle frame's wheel and mailbox scene of loveliness.  In a rather genius maneuver, that trifold is representing the TV.

I do not know why this did not play out when i actually put the tester pieces on the wall (over the existing artwork, no less).  There's something amiss, but what?  Clearly not as much as a genius maneuver as i thought.

This is how i keep myself busy while S is away on business.
Do you guys think it's too much for such a little space?

It's also hilarious when your partner, having returned early from said business trip, sends you a text wondering what the heck is this shite all over the living room wall. The man even used a red faced angry emoticon!  Cracks.me.up!

I am so bad with this kind of thing, but I think I might spread them out just a little...more balance? Anyway that cracks me up he used a red faced emoticon!

I tried to do the same thing with my gallery wall. I cut out a sheet of paper for each and every frame, layed it all out on the floor, tried to put it on the wall in the same pattern and... BLAH. It looked awful! Then I went back to the old way and just started poking a million holes in the wall til it looked right. All while tip-toe-ing around my husbands motorcycle. (proof: http://bontempsbeignet.blogspot.com/2011/05/gallery-wall-my-way.html)

And my hubby looked at me like I was 10 kinds of crazy when he saw his weekly Harbor Freight sales flyer all cut up and taped to the wall.

I'm with Liz. I have a million pictures on my wall and I never frame out the wall, I just put the first one up and go from there. It always seems to work out in the end. I'd say put up your focal picture and work your way around it. But then I'm very type B about these things.

I think it looks good. I like the suggestion on spreading it out a little bit. Or you might want to even bring a few pictures down a little around the tv. I'm never done a gallery wall, but just a few suggestions. I can't wait to see when it's done. Your husband is funny!

I like it being close together with the frames almost touching. This may sound crazy but I would almost add more. Come down a little more around the tv like you're incorporating it into the gallery.

I think it looks great.. just spread it out more! think about 4 inches out all around each picture... does that make sense? lol

I think it's going to look so great! I love gallery walls. We started one.. currently it only has 4 pictures but we're working on it, adding piece by piece. I would have loved to plan it all out but I got a little too impatient!

Try again with an odd number for frames. It might make a big difference when you look at it. Everything in nature comes in odds and it has kept all of our groupings from irking me. Have a great day!

I like the suggestion that others made to spread them out just a bit. The area above a tv is a hard area to decorate. I think your gallery wall will be a good solution.

I doubt that my husband would have even noticed the newspapers on the wall. :)

hahaha i love that you did it while he was away and he was freaked out by the newspaper on the wall ;)

Also... love the Travis reference in the title! I'm now singing that song in my head...

I think I would spread them out more too. Also, keep in mind that the tv is a focal point in the room so the frames kind of take away from that. Would it be better to put them on a blank wall where you can highlight the collage?

Totally agree with Firefly! Odd numbers because things in nature to not grow in even lots...or so I'm told.

I did this on a blank wall in the entry way but it's been packed forever!

You will be pleased with the final look. Also, it works best with single subjects...not too busy

I'm in favor of spreading it out more. You have a very large wall to cover. You might also want to try creating some balance with a horizontal line as Shelly did on House of Smiths. The first shot has the white frames much lower (around the TV) than you made them on the wall. Just that might help. Good Luck!!!

it will make a big statement...and that is what is important...go for it!

Ha! I hope you had a witty comeback for that angry emoticon!?? I think it would be a bit much for me. I'm with the group... maybe spread it out a bit more.

I tend to fly by the seat of my pants, so I'd probably just start hanging them. Only I'd hang them with those little command adhesive hooks so that I wouldn't have 100 holes to patch when I decided to make a change. Can't wait to see the finished gallery wall.
