Scrapbook paper equals cheap art

Reason number 254 as to why a person like me (read: not a scrapbooker) should always have an assortment on hand anyway, especially when one got it on clearance.  Even if one did not really know what one was going to do with it when one bought it....

My upstairs bathroom has yet to be addressed on the ol' blog here.  Mostly because it was "done" when we moved in, and we didn't do much but paint it.  I always felt like it wasn't really us with the white vanity and counter top, but we weren't changing what wasn't broken.  To just slap something up on the wall, i found a pack of white ikea frames and some boring floral artwork.  I'm not really a floral person, but, it was the right color, and it was cheap.  This actually makes me upset-how many times do we settle because of this?

Since i wasn't hugely happy with it, i always seem to be on the lookout for something else for this bathroom, something to make it more us.  I'm in a constant state of tweaking, and i'm not alone, right?  After looking on etsy for small prints and greeting cards, i went to my scrapbook stash to see if there was something a little different there.  The scrapbook stash had already proved helpful on previous occasions:

The bathroom has greens and browns, and i didn't want floral.  But then i saw this paper that was a much more funky floral, reminiscent even of something tribal, definitely something one would purposefully buy for framing.

Just slightly different from each other, yet definitely the look of a set.  One piece of paper snipped in two different pieces. Total cost: 0 dollars.  Satisfaction over interesting and cheap solution:  Hugeness.  So yes, this was the right color, and it was cheap-but this time it doesn't feel like settling.  I think i may even be done tweaking this space!

Do you have a collection of scrapbook paper for no real reason?  Have you ever used it for a different than usual purpose?

This is my favorite form of cheap art! This or printing pictures from the internet and framing them! Ha!

Your framed paper looks great! Not too florally either!

I have stashes of all sorts of craftable material, but strangely enough no scrapbooking paper! Anything paper like gets half-inched by the kids pretty quickly. Actually come to think of it, maybe teaching them to sew wasn't the best idea - now I might have to lock up my fabric stash......

What a novel idea, really inventive:)

Those are pretty! I like them!

I also have random scrapbook paper and I don't scrapbook. I keep it from projects in the past and then I can go back and use the scraps. I think some of them are from as long ago as 1999!

Love that! I love the pattern on the paper. I once went to a fancy-schmancy boutique shop where they had used spray adhesive to put scrapbook paper on canvases--brilliant. :) Good job.

What an excellent way to get fantastic art! The designs are so varied on scrapbook paper and yes I buy some cause I love the design and don't know what I will do with it. This is amazing and looks fabulous!

I've done a few frames using basic grey, their papers are so fabulous all you want to do is frame them.

Don't forget to add this project in our linking party where every Wednesday we showcase projects for our readers to discover.

I thought I was the only one who had scrapbooking paper but didn't scrapbook. I love that you framed it, it looks great. I'm always stalking the scrapbook isle for new art too.

I love using scrapbooking paper(wrapping paper, too) for all sorts of things that have nothing to do with scrapbooking. The papers are just so pretty!

Your "new" artwork looks great with your wall color. Thanks for sharing.

We're so thinking on the same lines! I love the two in the white frames. I've been wanting to do something very similar for my entry way. I see things like that for sale for $15+ bucks each and think, that could totally be done with scrapbooking paper!

I totally scored a bunch of old wallpaper books that they were throwing away at Sherwin Williams... I framed a bunch for my house in thrift store frames because art can be so expensive. It's an amazing thing!

Your scrapbook art looks awesome! I'm not a scrapbooker either, but I love the paper. Here's a link for a button shadowbox I made using scrapbook paper as the backing:

What fun scrapbook paper. Love it. I am thinking of making an "art" wall in my family room with scrapbook paper. There's such a variety these days. You must have a great paper stash.
