Can faux fly?

Look at these pretty pictures...notice something that they all have in common??

Yep, house plants.  Greens, to be exact.  Greens on the floor.  I crave me some greens in spring, yet
don't think it's wisest with my rather curious animal.

From other bloggers to the check out woman at HG (homegoods), people have been telling me their cats don't bother their plants.  Really?  I think in the past i've given my cat too much credit- i would assume if there's a comfy couch or a padded blanket, atop a pile of books would the last place she'd want to sit.  Or, i don't know, if there's an entire sunroom with windows a plenty and glass door with unobstructed view, i wouldn't walk in the kitchen to find her on the counter, smooshed behind the kitchen faucet in order to look out the window behind the sink.

Forgive me for not believing she would have the sense to avoid a toxic plant.  Some that are toxic don't even have to be eaten, just rubbed against.  This cat rubs and gives everything the once over-we don't call her the inspector for nothing.  She doesn't bother the plants that i do have (that i know of), but why take that chance?  I would imagine yours are inspecting your belongings more than you'd think.

Armed with my 25 page print out from the SPCA on toxic house plants, there were confusing discrepancies at Home Depot.  Either i have to go to a nursery or find a good fake one.  And you guys-i did, i went for a fake one.  Oh, please, pleeeeeeeeaaaaase tell me it looks real.

It was on super clearance at HG, looking totally sad and lonely and on the brink of death with 2 leaves detached.  Nothing hot glue can't fix.  I actually think the "on the brink of death" look is helping with the realness factor.

Plopped that whole thing in another pot, which gives it believability.  Or so i think.  And hope.

Do you have any faux greens in your home?  Where'd you find them?  Because maybe i need more....

B - Come visit us (since we need to get together anyway!). We have a great nursery nearby that has an awesome selection of indoor plants. I happen, unfortunately, to be one of the "no fake plant" sticklers. BTW, Sophie is constantly in my houseplants on the windowsill.

It looks pretty real from the pics! My cat also eats the fake ones, so we can't even do that. He got into the Xmas wreath and was throwing up little pieces for days!

We have a few live plants that are on top of the fridge and we have to open one of the cabinet doors so he can't jump up there. He's definitely tried, but failed and ended up on the stove with a cookie sheet going flying into the air!

It looks good and I think 'faux' is Ok if you like it. I only have one houseplant and Charlie seems uninterested in it. Still I would worry about anything remotely toxic! Hugs, Linda

I know I am one of those people who told you my cat does not get into our plants, but i think i just got lucky with a really good and sensible cat. I do have to cover the dirt otherwise she will dig in it.

I'm not a fan of fake plants, but that one does not look bad. If you have to do it then why not. I love the pot you put it in too. House plants, whether faux or not, just make a house look nicer.

I don't think it looks that bad. There is stuff you can put on plants to make them look more real, or so I think. I have a few real plants throughout the house but they'll eventually die and be replaced with more real plants. I'm not a fake plant person normally.

Goodness... from here (lens) I can't tell if they are fau. Sssshhhh... don't say more §;-)

Great job for a more greeny indoor. I need some too. Mine are well dried up and full of fruit flies and so, hate them when the leaves fall on the floor.

Honestly, I confess, I have 1 faux in the corner too... *wink

Happy Monday,

It looks real from your pictures! I am no stranger to faux blooms... I used them in my wedding bouquets and a little in my house. I was just thinking I need some green in my place but I hate the idea of killing some plant and what that would look like! :)

I use 'faux' plants/greenery all the time when I stage houses and many of them look better than the real ones! Often I have homeowners asking me how often they need to water them!

Unfortunately, to be honest, I've found that usually when it comes to fakes, you get what you pay for! Cheap plants and flowers look cheap. You've definitely got the right idea by putting them in another pot. I sometimes even put a bit of real soil on top of what there! (although I'm not sure if that would be a problem with a cat).

Thanks for stopping by my place today!

I think a handsome fake plant looks a lot better than a scraggly real one. My house doesn't have great natural light. If I open the blinds and shades for the plants, the sunlight fades the upholstery, rugs, books, etc, so I've switched to fakes. Putting them in a decent pot does wonders. My cat will eat anything grasslike, real or not, so I usually buy good looking fake ferns. He leaves those alone.

Faux can be ok especially if it is kind of at the back so not touchable. Good luck and thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a message.

I, too, love some greenery. There's just something they bring to a space that can not be duplicated. Thanks for sharing, liz

I kill all our houseplants. It's a combination of neglect and not enough sunlight in our shaded house. But the idea of dusting a fake plant has kept me away from faux. I like yours though, I think it looks pretty real myself.

Love it in the new pot! I think fake plants look a LOT better than they used to, and it looks like you found a good one!

Looks real to me too! I have a few little ones from Ikea. They are up fairly high here and there...but I think they look real enought :) Laurel

Looks real. I have to put a reminder to water my plants on my calendar.

Your plant looks very real. I have a few fake plants here and there in my home and I used to have some on top of my cabinets but they became dust collectors. I still have two fake orchids and a couple fake greens around. I am do not have a green thumb so I am probably better off with all fake!

I like your new plant! I don't think faux plants are bad, as long as they dont take over your house. I dont risk having toxic plants in my house either- with a cat and a dog it's not worth it!

We have quite a few faux plants in our home. I'd like real ones, but we have cats and I don't trust that they would leave them alone. Ours came from when it was a model home and they left all, and I mean ALL of them for us. There were too many in my opinion and many not my taste. We kept the smaller ones like yours and gave away the tall palm tree type.
Also, wanted to say thanks for commenting on my blog the other day. I love your blog and now your newest follower. I'd love if you followed back. I hope you're having a great weekend! Sorry for all my babble! :)

Looks pretty real to me! Definitely my kind of plant - ie one you can't kill - and there are too many crawly little critters in the tropics that would inhabit a real plant! MMm - maybe I'll go check out the fake plants in the stores...

No greenery in my home - I always end up killing whatever I get - I've thought about getting a faux plant, but then I think about needing to dust it, and that usually puts me off!
