Candy overload

So 28 people came by trick or treating last night, and we gave them 2 candies each.  So 28 x 2...carry the 1...56 candies.  The equivalent of 1 bag of nerds and 1/2 bag of milk duds.  I guess the 2 unopened bags of nerds, the bag of milky ways bars, and the other 1/2 of the milk duds are for us.  Not to mention what we ate from the candy bowl, wondering if people were coming around.  We had so few people coming early on that i thought to keep count so we know for next year.  Maybe b/c it was on Sunday and kids had school the next day?  i don't know.  All i know is i had waaay too much candy myself.  Did you guys have a big turnout?

Have you heard of trunk or treating?  Apparently some local school and churches did this, where you gather in a parking lot and have your trunks full of candy, instead of going door to door.  I'm sorry, but that does not fly with me.  Part of the fun of going to neighborhoods is to see the houses aglow with orange lights, to see the carved pumpkins lining the stairs.  Ringing the doorbell.  Actually saying trick or treat.  Not peering into the dark, cavernous trunks of strangers because it's too difficult to walk up the pathway to someone's house.  But that's just me.  And i'm just sayin'.

We didn't have many kids either last night which I think is due Halloween being on Sunday. We also had some really rude teenagers who tried to pull some stuff, but got told off at many houses.

We didn't have very many either... and a lot were too old to be out there I think. We didn't have a lot last year either... kind of disappointing, but I think it has a lot to do with where we live. Ah well...

As for this trunk or treating business... no way! It's definitely all about going door to door!

Thanks for the email and tips!

We had 10 yesterday! Last year we had none. I hate how lazy Halloween has gotten with kids now a days. I have heard of trunk or treat, but that is because a local car musueum put on the event here.

Trunk trick or treating sounds scary to me. Apparently most of the people in our area go to the mall?? to trick or treat. I don't know what that's about either. We walk to the houses we know in our own neighborhood. Where is the sense of community?

I totally agree with you about children and music, it is very important.

Happy Monday!

We ran out of candy & had to turn the light off. Funny thing is that we didn't have that many kids come by. Someone in my house must have been helping himself when I wasn't looking.

Here in Utah when it falls on Sunday the kids come on Saturday night. It was raining cats and dogs about 5-6 and then stopped. We didn't think we would get that many but once the rain stopped we had at least 200. Hubby ran out and got more but we still ran out.

I can see in neighborhoods where it is unsafe, that trunk or treat is a good idea, but I agree, the fun is going to houses and then with moms like me, seeing the way the house is decorated and which scary person comes to answer the door.

I agree that Trunk or Treating is a strange concept.

We live on a busy "country" road with no sidewalks or streetlights, so no trick or treaters for us. Just as well, I was already taking down the decorations last night!

We don't have many kids in our neighborhood and no trick or treaters. I haven't lived where there were kids treak or treating in years so I just don't plan on it anymore. I think because it was Sunday it was slower.

I agree, that trunk thing sounds weird. My girls love walking around in their costumes, looking at the houses with cool decorations and saying trick or treat! Walking through a parking lot with a bunch of trunks open just doesn't sound fun. lol

I don't think we have ever had trick or treaters out here. We always go in town for the festivities. I kind of like the go in a business or to a community center, but then I'm kind of about being done with the trick or treating. Like I said in my blog, after teaching high school 18 years and hearing all the stories about the inner vandals in some of my, otherwise lovable kids, I would just rather celebrate fall and then move on to Jolly Ole St. Nick!
